Description

An absolutely stunning example of Victorian piqué d'or - an intricate 19th century decorative technique developed in France where gold and/or sterling silver is inlaid into a material such as tortoiseshell.

This brooch is of a rare butterfly design, beautifully smooth to the touch and nicely lightweight, making it very wearable. Dating from around 1860-70.

The piece is in very good antique condition with just a few nibbles at the edge on the back.

Secures with a C clasp.

The metals are unmarked (as is often the case with pique work) but have been tested.

Size: Approx 4.5 x 2.5cm (one inch tall).

Weight: 5.2g.
