Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A novelty silver pepper pot is a functional table accessory designed in an unexpected or representational shape, such as a weight, animal, or miniature object. These items gained widespread popularity in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods as conversation pieces for formal dining tables.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver or electroplated nickel silver (EPNS). The casting processes allowed detailed shaping, followed by engraving, hand-finishing, and piercing top lids for dispensing pepper.

Authentic pieces usually feature distinct makers marks or stamps on the base or lower rim, such as EPNS or full maker logos like Mappin & Webb. Look for period-appropriate engraving techniques and signs of natural patination around the pierced holes and seams.

A novelty pepper pot can be styled as a accent on a dining table setting or grouped with other silver accessories on a sideboard or tray. It also functions as a decorative item inside a glazed cabinet or on a bookshelf.

Clean silver-plated items gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish to avoid removing the silver layer. Ensure all pepper residue is removed after use, as residual salts and spices can cause local tarnishing and corrosion.
