Description

Antique oil on Panel by the English artist, Frederick Golden Short (1863 - 1936). The painting is signed and dated and inscribed on the rear. It is mounted in a quality carved gilt frame and slip and is under glass.

Frederick Golden Short specialised in landscapes. He was born in Lyndhurst, Hampshire and having grown up in the New Forrest this was often a common subject for his paintings. Short worked primarily with oil paint and occasionally watercolour.

Short exhibited at the leading galleries of the time, including The Royal Academy of Arts, The Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and the New Gallery. As well as being an exhibition painter, Short created illustrations for books and publications.
