Exceptional Mahogany and Inlaid Bracket Clock by J W Benson C1890

19th century
Description

This is an exceptional example of a classic Mahogany mantel clock retailed by J W Benson of Ludgate Hill, London who were renowned for selling only the highest quality timepieces, the movement is by AD Mougin.

The case is simply quite stunning, made of mahogany which has a wonderful light colour but what is most striking is the quality of the inlay of exotic woods surrounding the clock. The top depicting Father Time with the sythe and hour glass and then the floral decoration around the bezel and base, this is complimented by the original brass feet and bezel with the white dial which of course is clearly marked with the retailers name.

The quality and attention to detail is stunning.

The clock strikes the hours and the half hours on a tuned gong which has the most beautiful mellow tone.

As you would expect from a movement by the top French maker A D Mougin it is an outstanding piece of top quality engineering and is totally original and again is clearly marked.

It also comes with its original winding key and numbered pendulum.

The movement has just undergone a full overhaul, clean and service by Alan Williams of Plymouth clocks, who is a fellow of the British Horological Institute with over 40 years experience working with high quality clocks so you can be assured that this clock is in tip top condition and will give trouble free service for many years to come.

It is keeping accurate time to within 1 minute a week.

This is a clock of the highest quality which is rarely seen.

The clock movement comes with a full 12 month warranty.

Dimensions of clock: Height 33cms , Width is 23cms, Depth 15cms, the dial is 10cms in diameter.
