Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Putti, depicting winged or wingless chubby infant figures, originated in classical antiquity and were reintroduced during the Italian Renaissance. By the 19th century, European foundries frequently produced bronze putti as allegorical figures representing academic pursuits, the arts, or seasonal themes for grand interior decoration.

Figures from this era were typically produced using the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting methods using bronze alloy. The cast bronze components were subsequently patinated to achieve deep brown tones and mounted onto marble bases, often embellished with gilt-bronze (ormolu) decorative mouldings.

Authentic period bronzes display refined hand-chasing detail, natural wear along high points of the patina, and historical mounting methods such as threaded iron rods underneath the bases. The weight of the cast bronze and the quality of marble cuts also serve as primary indicators of age and origin.

A pair of bronze figures creates balance when arranged symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or within a formal bookcase. The rich bronze patina and marble hues complement both classic dark wood joinery and minimalist modern surfaces.

Dust surfaces gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or microfibre cloth to prevent scratching the patina. Avoid liquid chemicals or abrasive polishes; marble components may be cleaned using a damp cloth with distilled water, while bronze surfaces benefit from an occasional application of microcrystalline wax.
