Description
Antique tea chest with secret compartments within the tea caddies..! This wonderful tea Chest is veneered in Satinwood with tulipwood crossbanding and inlaid with quarter fans and unmarked sterling silver, shaped handle. the top. The front has a bone teardrop-shaped escutcheon. Lifting the lid reveals two removable tea caddies and a beautiful inlaid conch shell on the underside of the main lid. The removable tea caddies have sliding lids to keep the tea leaves fresh. Each of these caddies has a false side that slides open. This could have been used to store caddy spoons. Comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key. Circa 1775 Internal Ref: 500760
