Original 17th Century William and Mary Burr Walnut Cabinet on Chest, Circa 1690. England
The perfect amount of light exposure combined with regular beeswax polishing over centuries has resulted in the most wonderful patinated and textured surfaces to the well chosen burl and figured walnut veneers.
The Cabinet
The cross-grain cornice neatly conceals a full-length hidden drawer known as a cushion drawer. Over two large feather and cross-banded doors, opening to a wonderful arrangement of highly figured walnut long and short drawers, each finely lined in oak and retain the original rapusee back plates and ring-pull handles.
The Chest
Moulded to the waist in figured walnut over two short and two long burl walnut oak lined drawers divided by cross-grain D-mouldings, raised on a cross-grain ogee moulding and bun feet.
The sides are veneered in book-matched figured walnut and cross-banded.
This is a very beautiful and accomplished example.
