Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian furniture design spans from 1714 to 1830 and is characterised by symmetrical proportions, classic architectural influences, and the extensive use of high-quality mahogany. Common features include turned or cabriole legs, pad or claw-and-ball feet, and cast brass handle plates.

Georgian furniture makers predominantly utilized imported West Indian or Cuban mahogany due to its dense grain, rich colour, and durability. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were typically used for interior drawer linings, accompanied by solid brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, irregular oak or pine drawer linings, and natural timber shrinkage across solid surfaces. Original brass hardware often shows hand-hammered marks and genuine surface oxidisation on the reverse.

A Georgian side table functions well as an entryway console or an occasional table alongside modern upholstered seating. Placing a simple ceramic lamp or structured contemporary art above the table creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

To preserve the original finish, dust the surface regularly with a soft dry microfiber cloth and keep the timber away from direct sunlight or strong heat sources. Applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year protects the patina without causing build-up.
