Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow style of chest of drawers that emerged in Britain during the 19th century, named in honour of the Duke of Wellington. It features vertical side pilasters, one of which folds over the drawer edges and locks with a single key to secure all drawers simultaneously.

These chests were typically crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often featuring fine veneers like burr walnut. Construction techniques include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid wood drawer linings, and turned timber or brass knobs.

Authentic period pieces feature a functioning hinged side locking bar (pilaster), hand-carved decorative corbels at the top corners, hand-cut dovetails inside the drawers, and genuine timber patina showing light surface wear consistent with age.

Due to its tall, slender footprint, a Wellington chest functions exceptionally well in narrow alcoves, hallways, home offices, or bedrooms where floor space is limited while offering vertical storage.

Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood shrinkage or veneer movement.
