Description

A fine quality late Victorian period inlaid mahogany display cabinet by the prestigious firm of cabinet makers Edwards and Roberts of London. Of serpentine form and made from the highest grade of solid mahogany with attractive mahogany veneers. Decorated with inlaid foliate detailing throughout. The glazed top section has a single door (lockable, key supplied) which opens to access a lined and shelved interior. This is surmounted by a cornice of broken-arch swan neck form. The base is also of serpentine fronted form and has a single drawer fitted with its original solid brass handles. All standing on long, elegant out swept legs, united by an under-tier. Sympathetically repolished and re-lined in our workshops. Now offered for sale in excellent condition, with a great colour and patina, ready to go straight into the home. Splits into 3 sections for ease of installation.

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
