Digby Antiques (Wiltshire) has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Good clear marks to the lid and base.

Presented to Thos Redfern by the Directors of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co for his services on the 24th May 1842.
Redfern is a local IOM family name and there was a Thomas Redfern who was a butcher and hotel owner. I have not been able to find anything more about the gentleman or what occurred on this date.

The box is in very good condition, opens and shuts well, the gilding to the inside is in fantastic condition. The top and bottom does show some wear to the engine turning but this is to be expected due to the age of the item.
