An excellent French Strike/Repeating brass CARRIAGE CLOCK by the famous Parisian clock-maker Alfred DROCOURT, in a ''Gorge'' style case.
The 8-day movement retains its original platform lever escapement and strikes hours and half hours on a bell, repeating the last hour at will by depressing the top-mounted button.
The back of the movement is engraved by the highly regarded London retailer Payne & Co of 163 New Bond Street, known to almost exclusively buy all their clocks from Drocourt. The backplate also bears the clocks serial number 1704, which helps to date it between 1860-65.
This item comes complete with its original embossed leather travelling case and a (later numbered) Drocourt key.
