Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early nineteenth-century France during the Empire period, a somno is a cylindrical nightstand or pot cupboard designed to sit beside a bed. These pieces typically feature classical proportions, rich mahogany veneers, and inset marble tops.

Cabinetmakers during the Empire period primarily utilised flame mahogany veneers over oak or softwoods, topped with grey or white marble inserts. Internal structures featured simple wooden shelving, complemented by cast brass or bronze hardware.

Authentic Empire pedestals exhibit heavy hand-cut joinery, thick mahogany veneers, circular hand-turned timber mouldings, and integrated marble tops. Look for hand-planed back panels and age-appropriate wear around the plinth base and door hinges.

A mahogany cylindrical cupboard functions effectively as a sculptural side table beside an armchair or as an accent piece in a compact corner. The flat marble surface provides a durable display area for lamps, ceramics, or books while adding warmth to contemporary settings.

Clean the mahogany timber using a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to preserve the original finish. Protect the marble insert from acidic liquids and spills by wiping them immediately with a damp, non-abrasive cloth.
