A Fine Scottish George III Mahogany 'fiddle-back' Side Chair By William Hamilton C.1770

The tapering back with re-entrant corners and pierced rails, above a concave seat on square tapering legs.
 
Excellent original condition, structurally rock-solid. Some very minor dents and scratches commensurate with age, seat stuffing a little over done.
 
Theis chair is identical to a set provided by William Hamilton and held in the collection of Trinity House in Leith. Wiliam Trotter provide the hall chairs for Trinity House in the early 19th century. Hamilton and Trotter were in partnership for a short period of time between c.1795 and 1800. The firm was Young, Trotter and Hamilton and in 1796 they provided furniture for apartments of the Comte d''Artois (later Charles X) at the Palace of Holyroodshire in Edinburgh.
