Large Antique English Cut Crystal Inkwell with Silver Gilt Lid - 1891

Description

A magnificent and handsome large desk-top inkwell made from a heavy piece of chunky crystal with circular dimples interspersed with long vertical cuts the base with a star cut.

The highly decorative collar and lid is made from solid or sterling silver and then gilded (gold on silver), there is a good clear hallmark for Birmingham 1891 together with the makers mark J G & S for John Grinsell & Sons.

The top is covered in beautiful repousse decoration around a central cartouche engraved with a highly decorative intertwined monogram.

Excellent condition, measuring 3 1/4" in diameter and stands 3 1/2" tall.
