Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gaudy Welsh pottery refers to hand-painted earthenware produced primarily between 1820 and 1860 in South Wales and Staffordshire. Characterised by vibrant underglaze and overglaze motifs, it was created as affordable decorative tableware for working-class households.

These pieces were crafted from heavy earthenware or ironstone pottery, shaped on wheels or in moulds, and fired. Artisans applied bright enamel decoration by hand over a white or cream glaze, often featuring copper lustre, cobalt blue, or bold botanical colours.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-painted brushstrokes with minor inconsistencies rather than transfer prints. They often feature fine surface glaze crazing, a heavy earthenware weight, molded base details, and occasionally impressed maker marks or pattern numbers on the underside.

Antiques of this style are frequently integrated into modern rustic, country house, or eclectic interiors. Displaying them on open kitchen dressers, floating oak shelves, or using them as desktop pen holders brings historical texture and colour into contemporary spaces.

Clean gently by hand using warm water and mild soap, avoiding complete submersion to protect crackled glazes. Do not place antique earthenware in dishwashers or microwaves, and keep them away from sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking.
