ANTIQUE #SA903050

A Late 19th Walnut Day Bed Attributed To James Shoolbred & Co. C.1870

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeckyll & Co

Superior quality with deep buttoned upholstery, turned walnut legs and Cope & Collinson ceramic castors. The firm of James Sholobred & Co. were competitors of Howard & Sons and received the Royal Warrant in the 1880s. The attribution to Shoolbred is based on the quality and construction of the daybed (I have had a very similar model with Shoolbred castors), and the distinctive pattern of the legs which are documented as having been used by the firm.

Condition: Structurally sound, the seat stuffing is slightly unevenly distributed, sitting lower at the scroll end. The odd mark to the upholstery. One castor is not currently rotating.
