Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French faience refers to tin-glazed earthenware ceramics developed in France from the sixteenth century onwards, drawing inspiration from Italian maiolica and Dutch Delftware. Major regional production centres such as Rouen, Desvres, and Nevers created distinct hand-painted styles characterised by vibrant polychrome glazes.

Traditional faience is crafted from an earthenware clay body that is fired and dipped in an opaque tin-based lead glaze. Hand-painted decoration is applied using metallic oxide pigments prior to a final firing, resulting in rich colours fused directly into the glazed surface.

Authentic pieces display hand-painted brushwork with slight natural irregularities, unglazed foot rims revealing pale reddish or buff earthenware, and occasional minor glaze flakes. Makers marks, painter initials, or regional heraldic emblems often indicate specific regional factories.

Display faience items on a sideboard, bookshelf, or mantelpiece alongside natural timber, brass, or linen accents. The vibrant hand-painted patterns provide texture and historic interest within both traditional and contemporary interior schemes.

Dust gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or camel-hair brush. Avoid immersing earthenware in water or using abrasive chemicals, as micro-cracks in the tin glaze can absorb moisture and lead to damage over time.
