Aramis Antiques has dated this piece to the 1750s.
It depicts a charming pastoral scene of a young couple courting in the early evening, with a shepherd boy passing by with sheep, and young girl looking enviably at the couple. The frames are black lacquered and gilt, and the image sits behind gilt painted glass known as verre eglomise. The back has not been opened so it’s not been possible to check if the usual attributions are inscribed on the edge of the engraving. In lovely original condition.
