Late 18thc Stipple Engraving Morning C1790

18th century
Description

A delightful late 18thc hand coloured stipple engraving dating to c1790. The image is well known and was engraved and printed by Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815) after William Hamilton (1751-1801), and is known as Morning. It depicts a charming pastoral scene with young women engaged in the early morning task of milking, with children playing with the buckets. The frames are black lacquered and gilt, and the image sits behind gilt painted glass known as verre eglomise. The back has not been opened so it’s not possible to check if the usual attributions are inscribed on the edge of the engraving. In lovely original condition.
