A fine oil on canvas portrait of Joanna Capel-Cure. A beautifully detailed and enigmatic portrait with the sitter looking directly out and dressed in black with flashes of red from the fabric at her side and the rose on her chest. The painting is signed to the right but the signature is illegible, it is dated 1850. The work is in good condition with some minor restoration and repair all professionally done. The frame is perhaps the original it has a great worn look and has been mounted later with a name plate. The Capel-Cure family were from Essex and their seat was Blake Hall. The whole has a great period look and is ready to hang.
