ANTIQUE #SA901907

A 19th Century Walnut And Carved Giltwood Slipper Chair C.1880 Attributed To Morison & Co.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeckyll & Co

A fine quality chair in excellent condition overall. There are one or two minor losses to the parcel-gilt around the rails, upholstery is in good order, castors run smoothly and the frame is rock solid.

The attribution to Morison & Co. is made pricipally on stylistic grounds and on sophistication of the design and its execution. Interestingly the castors are the same as those on the open armchair by Morison and also held in our stock.

Morison & Co. were regarded as one of the very best cabinet makers in Scotland. They supplied furniture to country houses throughout the country including Newbattle Abbey for the Marquis of Lothian, Blairquan (in Ayrshire where the company was originally founded), and Scone Palace. The most extensive collection of furniture by Moriaosn & Co. is held at Lauriston Castle, Edinburgh.
