Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian tub armchair is characterised by a low, continuously curved backrest that flows directly into the armrests, creating a semi-circular enclosure. These chairs frequently feature turned wooden legs, decorative splats or spindles, and upholstered leather or textile seats.

Victorian tub armchairs were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak. Seats were traditionally stuffed with horsehair and covered in leather or heavy woven fabrics, secured to the frame with brass upholstery tacks.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature solid hardwood joinery, hand-turned leg details, and signs of age such as natural wear on the armrests and patina on the timber finish. Original upholstery often shows brass studwork and natural hide grain with historic surface creasing.

A Victorian tub chair works well as a desk chair in a home study or as an accent seat paired with a contemporary side table. Combining dark timber and rich leather tones with neutral wall palettes creates balanced visual contrast.

Keep timber frames hydrated using natural beeswax polish and avoid placing the chair near direct heat sources or prolonged sunlight to prevent cracking. Leather seats should be periodically treated with a dedicated leather conditioner to maintain flexibility.
