Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian pedestal dining tables from the 19th century feature central turned pillars mounted on sculpted legs rather than four corner legs, allowing maximum legroom. Crafted predominantly from solid and veneered mahogany, these tables frequently incorporate oval tops, tilt-top mechanisms, and decorative carving.

Victorian cabinetmakers favoured dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany for its rich grain and stability. Internal substructures were constructed using pine or oak, while legs were fitted with cast brass or iron castors to assist with movement.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, period brass castors, and original tilt-top latch mechanisms beneath the tabletop. Natural age-related oxidation on the underside of the timber and subtle wear on the carved feet also indicate period origin.

A dark mahogany dining table can be paired with modern upholstered chairs or mid-century seating to create a balanced contrast. Placing the table beneath a contemporary pendant light accentuates the timbers warm grain in contemporary spaces.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly to maintain the finish and protect the timber. Use mats under warm dishes and avoid placement near direct heat sources or prolonged sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or fading.
