Description

Splendid Empire style couch or daybed c.1900. Sprung seat between curving raised ends with two bolster cushions upholstered in a well chosen green silk with a pattern of gold victory wreaths. Mahogany frame carved at the ends with beautifully observed swans, symbol of the Empress Josephine. Straight apron with a carved detail at the centre and raised on short splayed legs. Unusually the decoration is repeated on both sides of the piece meaning it would be suitable to stand in the centre of a room. Excellent condition with clean covers, the frame has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
