Masons Ironstone china is a heavy, vitreous earthenware patented by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, England, in 1813. Designed as a durable alternative to imported Chinese porcelain, it became famous for its dense body, rich glazes, and colourful Oriental-inspired patterns.

Antique ironstone is constructed from refined clay mixed with ground flint and iron slag, creating a dense, opaque ceramic body. Items were finished with lead-based glazes, hand-painted polychrome enamel decoration, and liquid gold leaf accents.
