Large mid C19th ‘kidney’-shaped papier-mâché tray with gilded border .
Smart black lacquered papier-mâché tray having ‘Greek-key’ and guilloche or linked-chain style gilded decoration to the border with a rolled edge.
In excellent condition with no cracks , crazing , damage or repairs, and with minimal wear to the gilding .
The verso with an impressed ‘kite’ registration mark and the word “PREMIER” also bears the remains of a paper trade or retail label for a Birmingham firm .
*In the C19th Birmingham was a renowned manufacturing centre for patented papier-mâché goods such as this tray .
