In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It opens to reveal three writing pads as well as a pen tray and its original glass inkwell in a protective leather case. The lining of the lid folds down to provide a useful storage section behind and actually contains its original leather bound book of blotting paper. This top part of the box folds down flat to provide the writing surface. The bottom part of the box folds upwards to reveal a row of letter or document holders and a further large storage section below.

It is excellent quality with a Bramah lock and a maker's stamp for "Melliship & Harris, 111 Westbourne Grove".
The box is in very good condition for its age. The leather is in good order with a little bit of wear to one edge but no major damages or marks and a lovely patina. The lock works and comes with a key. Inside, it is generally clean and tidy with a few small marks and signs of use but nothing detrimental. Overall the box displays very well and is certainly a nice usable item.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
