Late C19th/ early C20th Chinese Qing Dynasty carved hardwood hall seat .
Impressive high-backed hall seat or bench featuring a curved and shaped rear panel carved with a detailed traditional Chinese landscape mountainous scene with pagodas and trees .
The centre of the top rail carved with a large spreading auspicious bat motif , further bat motifs amongst the carving of the frame . Open and pierced fret-work carving to the seat frieze and frame , serpentine-shaped front rail and seat . The carved panel back carved with Chinese calligraphy characters to the right-hand side , possibly a title or signature.
The shaped open-arms topped with carved lions or lion-dogs . The whole raised on shaped cabriole type supports.with carved scroll feet.
The shaped panelled seat having some historic shrinkage cracks following the grain .
In strong and stable condition , the whole with a rich colour and patina.
