The sides are inset with trellis-work frets backed with red fabric. The is base cast with a vitruvian scroll and with a leaf clasp finial.

The large dial is porcelain enamel on copper with its original finely fretted gilt hands and convex glass.
The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. It is the large, square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock, please ask and we will send you a link.

An 18th century clock of similar design can be found illustrated in 'H. Ottomeyer et P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, I, p. 182, fig. 3.8.5. That example is part of the collection of the Louvre, Paris.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage. We have replaced the fabric with fresh.
