Georgian Mahogany Tilt Top Wine Table C. 1750

Description

An absolutely stunning George II Cuban mahogany wine table of exceptional quality.

The single board mahogany top over gun-barrel column with ring turned top and base set on splayed tripod cabriole legs with exaggerated slipper feet, each leg with a scroll folding back from below the hock which is carved in the solid in the manner of Thomas Chippendale.

With old professional restorations and two chips to the underside edge of the table as shown in our photographs from one chip there is old hairline crack about four inches long which is stable, old and not going anywhere.

Edwardian ivorine retail label for James Reeves & Co. (antique dealers of 10-14 Cumberland Street) which traded high quality antiques for nearly 100 years from the 1870s onwards.

A very rare and beautiful table of lovely proportion, sturdy, robust and level.
