A 19th Century Iron and Wood Spiral Candlestick

Description

Circa 1800-1850 This spiral or 'pigtail' candlestick as they were often referred to is made of iron with a simple shaped piece of wood, probably oak, for the base.

It is 22.5cm in height and the base is approximately 10cm in diameter. It has the mark MAUDUIT on the handle, and the number 2 carved on the base.

The spiral mechanism works well, and there are no signs of damage on the item bar age related wear to the base.
