A Type III 'In Statu Quo' Travelling Chess Set by J. Jaques & Son, circa 1890

the hinged mahogany case incorporating a board with alternate squares in rosewood and sycamore, with the brass-pegged bone pieces stained red and left natural, with a bone-pegged locking mechanism and brass slide-lock to the side, with brass plaque inscribed: J. JAQUES & SON Makers London, and stamped" IN STATU QUO...PATENT CHESS BOARD to the other side.
