Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
To the top there is a lid with a leather writing surface and a stationary compartment. The drawers to the side all lock and come with a working key. It stands on cup feet with casters. It is in beautifully figured burr walnut veneers with inlay throughout.

Condition Report:
The lid has warped slightly at one corner and there is a small area of corresponding veneer cracking to the top – see photos. There are some small areas of veneer loss and some old small repairs to the veneers in places commensurate with age. The casters are replacements.
