Rare Japanese Meiji (19thC) mulberry wood writing box (suzuri-bako) with gold lacquer depiction of Hotei (Budai-Sama), one of the seven lucky gods, on the lid. Contains its original large Midoribata inkstone (14 x 7.5cm) and pen rest, but is missing its water dropper. Measures 24cm x 15cm x 4cm high.
Good condition and patina.
