Antique Victorian Solid Silver Pin Cushion - Crown

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

This is a highly unusual example of a solid sterling silver pin cushion. Being modelled as Queen Victoria''s crown, and hallmarked in 1895, it may well have been created to mark the Queen''s Diamond Jubilee.

It is a large, hefty item, with a weighted, sealed base. The cushion is original and faded from its original vibrant purple colour and the velvet is worn in one area. The silver is damaged where the hallmarks were struck - possibly through over-enthusiastic cleaning. It is hallmarked for London 1895, with the maker''s mark of James Deakin & Sons (John & William F Deakin).
