Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The bowl is of exceptional quality, craftsmanship and design which is of no surprise being one of J.E. Terrey's creations.

Featuring ornate chasing with crisp engravings, accentuated by a stippled background and amplified by applied cast ornamentations, this piece most certainly is not lacking in brilliance and majesticness.

J.E. Terrey was an excellent silversmith of the late Georgian to the Victorian era with his works his finest works often featured a very thick and sturdy gauge of silver that would eventually be heavily decorated with his distinct ornate style of chasing and applied cast decoration.

Some of his finer creations such as this bowl are indeed fabulous and rival the top makers and silversmiths of his time in terms of quality and craftsmanship; as a testament to such workmanship, some of his works can be found in world-renown museums such as the V&A in London (a silver basket).

The top features a band of floral and acanthus motifs at intervals, all intricately decorated. The side of the bowl features further flowers and scrolls that have been hand chased.
The four feet are applied silver-cast with rococo style flare and embellishments.

Whilst the bowl would make for an excellent collector's display piece, due to its versatile size, it could grace a dining table as a small fruit bowl, sweet holder or perhaps even as a majestic bottle holder.

The bowl is fully hallmarked on the lower side of the exterior with English marks.
