This exquisite Georgian mourning ring features nine old mine and rose cut diamonds in a square shaped head, surrounded by a border of twelve elaborate pearls. A black band of enamel runs around the entirety of the shank stamped with old English style lettering which reads ‘IN MEMORY OF’. Inside the band there is an engraved inscription which reads ‘Sarah Cochin Obt 8 Feb 1823 At 68’.

Mourning jewellery was a trend which grew popular in the Georgian times where the rich families commissioned jewellers to make personal and symbolic pieces in order to help with their grief process, offering the wearer remembrance, comfort and consolation.

This ring, circa 1823, tests as 18ct and has an approximate total of 0.25ct of diamonds. One of the pearls has slight nacre damage but all stones remain well held, and it is in good wearable condition, with light marks commensurate with age.

Ring weight: 4.01g

Size M½ UK/AU, 6¼ US/CA, 53 FR/RU, 16¾ DE

Please note that due to the enamel work on this band it is excluded from our Free Resizing service.
