A 17th Century Ebonised Armchair (dutch - Circa 1690)

A Late 17th Century Dutch armchair, which until very recently, formed part of the contents of an elegant and historic property on the banks of the Thames, previously owned by Walter De La Mare. Now, after many years of use, it''s fine and curvaceous ebonised beechwood frame has been worn in all the right places, leaving a very appealing surface patina. As you would expect, this 330 year old armchair has undergone some restoration in it''s past - the simple stretchers that span the legs and sit beneath the hand dyed unfinished leather upholstered seat (approx. 50 years old) have been replaced, using the correct timber and traditional methods. The decorative shaped stretcher that spans the base of the chair looks to be approximately 100 years old, but more than likely, as it is such a sympathetic replacement, the restorer may well have copied the design of the original.
