The four cabriole legs with well carved spandrels terminate in large claw and ball feet.
Heavy and robust, there is no movement in the stool and it retains its original seat rails – these are visible at present as there isn’t a dust cover fitted on the underside of the stool. In each corner below the seat there Victorian hand forged brackets which have been fitted in the mid 19th century to add extra support to the seat rails . This was commonly done as ‘belt and braces’ and the brackets can be removed if not required as the original tenons and pegs are present.
The stool is currently covered with a deep purple velvet, usable but worm, attractively aged and as it suits the stool rather well I have not re-upholstered this. Very comfortable, well padded, tall and sturdy with no breaks or repairs, and no restorations other than the addition of brackets mentioned. There are minor marks, wear to the feet and small knocks consistent with age and use.
