Dickinsons Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
A thick moulded planked lid retains its original ring hinges. All carving is bold and vigorous. This coffer is of a superb colour and in great condition.

At some point in the coffers life the Yorkshire mindset of "make do and mend" was applied and the till has been repurposed and strengthened the bottom.
Elizabethan in character, a style which continued within the prosperous 17th century cities of Leeds and Halifax. For similar examples of mid-17th century inlaid furniture attributed to Yorkshire see the Shibden Hall Collection, Halifax, West Yorkshire
