Description
A handsome early copper line engraved elevation of the facade of the Mansion House in the City of London. Mansion House is a town palace and has been the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London since 1752. Built between 1739 and 1752, in the Palladian style by the City of London surveyor and architect George Dance the Elder. This fine folio engraving was published in London in 1756 during the reign of George II by the eminent English engraver Benjamin Cole, as an illustration to Maitland's 'The History of London'. A fine and sharp impression on hand-laid paper in very good and clean state. Within a good period Hogarth frame with textured slip. The frame is also in first class condition.
