A Rare Set of 4 Old Sheffield Plated Wine Bottle Coasters C1830

Description

A rare and fine set of 4 wine bottle / decanter coasters. Made of Old Sheffield Plate and dating to c1820-1830. No makers marks but with visible external seams. Beautifully styled with a concave body and elaborate decoration around the rim. With turned wooden bases bearing a central button, engraved with the crest of a lion rampant. Baised to the bases.

The condition is very good overall. The plating is in good order although two of the coasters have a few stubborn black spot marks. One coaster has a very small ding. Slight age related wear to the wooden bases.

Total weight approx 1.2kg

Diameter approx 16cm.

Internal diameter approx 12.5cm
