An exhibition quality monumental late 19th century fine mahogany and musical long case clock. The superb quality face having a wonderful arched hand painted moon roller showing fazes of the moon and date. The dial with pierced and gilded spandrels and etched centre. The silvered dial having raised gilded Arabic numerals and enclosing a subsidiary seconds dial in the centre. The 2 other subsidiary dials offer Chime or Silent and Whittington or Westminster Chimes. The 3 train 8 day movement with polished brass weights and brass and steel pendulum. The tunes are played on 8 tubular gongs and the hour is struck on a circular gong. The movement has been totally serviced and polished to a very high standard. The fine mahogany case topped with a carved bracket above the moulded arched frieze which has scrolling carved foliage. The hood supported by sugar barley twist columns and the bevel edged door with working lock and key. The trunk having conforming barley twist columns with further carved detail and bevel edged glazed door. The base having an arched panel flanked by scrolling foliage and graduated carved harebells all raised on a shaped plinth base. Condition - Very good throughout. Circa 1890.
