Two Sheraton Revival Inlaid Bedroom Chairs.

Description

In good clean and tidy condition these two chairs came with another and can go for a very keen price. They are both from the late 1800s or very early 1900s and are ready for a new home. To be fair the seats would benefit from being reupholstered but they are quiteuseable as they are. Both chairs are a pretty shape and have good colour and good inlays. Two elegant inlaid Mahogany chairs at a bargain price (£100) here to be sold. Both chairs are just over 90cms tall, other measurements below are on the seat. Sheraton Revival emerged in late Victorian and Edwardian Britain, drawing design inspiration from Thomas Sheratons late 18th-century neoclassical pattern books. The style is recognised by lightweight frames, rectilinear forms, tapered legs, shield or oval backs, and subtle wood marquetry or stringing.

Cabinetmakers primarily used dense mahogany or satinwood for structural frames. Decorative accents frequently feature boxwood, satinwood, or rosewood inlays, paired with woven cane or fabric upholstery on padded seat drop-ins.

Look for square tapered legs ending in spade feet, oval or shield-shaped splat backs, precise geometric inlay stringing, and solid mahogany timber showing natural age patination along the unpolished underside.

Place a pair on either side of a hallway console table, or use a single chair beside a bedroom dressing table or writing desk to introduce warm timber tones and classical geometry into modern minimalist rooms.
