Adjustable Student's Oil Lamp

1900 - 1920
Description

Circa 1900-1920 an unusual brass oil lamp with a screw under the oil container to adjust the height height, and with the original shade and glass funnel. It is an unusual shape with a V shape at the side to allow a compact design. See photo 4.

It measures 30cm without the shade, approximately 50cm with the shade and funnel and the base is approximately 13cm in diameter and has the original weighted base inside. It could be carried around easily by the round handle -photo 6.

On the wick handle the wording: The Wizard, Made In Germany can be seen. R.E. Dietz set up a company in 1840 to make Kersonene lanterns and in 1920's became well known for their camping lanterns. We cannot be sure this was made in Germany or whether the wick fitting was made by the Dietz company.
