William Greaves 1852-1938 was a landscape artist born in Leeds and studied at the Sheffield College of Art.He travelled and exhibited widely including the RA, the Royal Cambrian Academy ,The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery.He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. ‘ Rural Landscape with Figures,Cattle,Ducks and Hens’’ signed oil on canvas,dated 1887; image size 27.5x43.5 cms,framed size 45x60 cms.The picture has been newly framed with a hand made frame and professionally cleaned.
