Description

Exquisitely, finely knotted, this bag was once part of a double pair of saddle-bags, sadly split up at some point in its distant past! Made by the Salar Khani Baluch tribe in Khorassan Province, north-east Persia circa 1880-1900, the indigo-blue field contains the 'herati' pattern - a design of two fish swimming around water-lilies and symbolising happiness. Look closely and you will see little quadrupeds depicted here and there. Charming! The bag has retained its original plain-weave back and overall it is in excellent condition.
