This is an attractive table clock by the famous partnership of Parkinson & Frodsham.
The eight day duration, five pillar, double gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. Also having Strike/Silent and hour pull repeat rack and starwheel striking the hours on a rear-mounted bell, pendulum parking bracket, micrometer regulation, lyre shaped crutch and border engraved patterning to the back plate which also passes over the fixing brackets, pendulum locking block and back cock. The backplate has
an oval cartouche containing the makers names in beautifully executed, engraved script.
Behind a 7” diameter bowed painted iron dial with cream background, a black minute track, Roman hour numerals and the makers names of “Parkinson & Frodsham”, LONDON above and below the centre. The matching steel hands are decoratively pierced. ...king cast bezel is closed which has a snapped-in bow glass.
Contained in a mahogany ‘Break-lancet’ case. The lancet sits over an all-round moulding. The case front comprises of circular and proud crossbanding around the bezel, horizontal cushion crossbanding to both side edges, a sunken fluted moulding below the dial and symmetrical geometric brass inlay to the top and to the lower well-figured section. The sides have arched top sound apertures with church style cast brass frets that are backed with cloth. The back has a glazed and conforming locking door. The short plinth
carries around the case with a bevelled top moulding and this sits upon four cast brass ball feet.
Parkinson & Frodsham (1800 to 1850): William Parkinson was in the Clockmaker''s Company from 1802 until 1842. William James Frodsham was born in 1778, in the Clockmaker''s Company from 1802 and Master in 1836. He died in 1850.
The clock movement has been maintained and is working well. The dial has had repairs to the paint surface and the bezel glass has slight chips, the largest being between the figures V & VII. The case is unrestored and though its construction is sound, has minor age and usage damage to the veneer around the back door. Also, the bezel catch is in need of attention.
