As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most charming Meiji Period 1868-1912 , circa 1910, globular studio vase signed by the well recorded artist Shofu Katei, lattery Shofu Kajo, a Seto school potter that moved to work in Kyoto in around 1890, Shofu excelled at numerous new untried techniques and in particular potting porcelain in relief ( Moriage), he won the green ribbon in 1915. On this fine example we see a mountain in relief as the backdrop to a gorgeous and almost contemporary feeling Winter landscape, painted in monochrome light and dark grey''s beneath a graduated sky, the black trees dominant in the foreground, artist signed Shofu in a blue seal to the underside, a fine and rare example of this potters work in the Moriage technique.
